Did anyone else get the GD monthly flash email? Sounds like we will see some more of this run. Here is the Q&A portion of the email.
Question:While searching through the out-take material from The Grateful Dead Movie for the bonus songs on the new DVD, did you have all of the music from all 5 nights (October 16-20, 1974) to select from?
Answer:We did have some material from all 5 nights to select from for the bonus songs, but by no means was the entire run filmed. For instance, on the first night, only 5 or 6 songs were filmed (including the big 32 minute "Playing In The Band" that was included in The Grateful Dead Movie, and which can be heard for the first time in its entirety on the 5 CD soundtrack to the Movie). On the second night, we had a little less than half of the show to choose from, and for bonus material we selected "China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider" and the "The Other One>Spanish Jam>Mind Left Body Jam>The Other One." From the middle night, October 18, we had a little more than half, but some of the best material from this night was already in the Movie ("Morning Dew," "Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad"). However, we have also included the sweet "Sugaree," the excellent "Weather Report Suite" and the "Dark Star" that preceded "Morning Dew." From the 19th we had about half of the show to select from ("Scarlet Begonias" and "Uncle John's Band" made the cut), and from the final night, also about half of the show was filmed. So, as you see, not everything was filmed, but between the Movie and the bonus songs on the DVD, we now have more than 3 hours of music from these shows on pristine quality DVD. Rest assured there is more to come down the road from this run.

"This is more to my liking...There's good Rock here. This country has tough bones."~Gimli son of Gloin
Try as I might, I can't resist inviting the other folks anticipating this momentous release to
View my 3D fly-through animation of the 1974 Wall Of Sound ...click on "Wall of Sound ANIMATION" and be patient; it doesn't look likes its doing anything as it loads. It's about a 35MB load for about a two minute video... and turn up the sound :-)

Some things don't change. People die. Others get born to take their place. Storms cover the land with trouble. And then, always, the sun breaks through again. John Perry Barlow
WOW!
That was EXCELLENT, Tom!!!!!!
I went to several shows when the band was using the Wall Of Sound and will never forget 'em. To this day, I can remember entering an arena/theater and seeing the WOS and being a) blown away by the assemblage on stage and b) knew we were in for a helluva good night!

I went the opening week in Chicago at the majestic Granada Theater..and there were about 5 people attending.
A coupla' years later, saw a midnight screening in the dead of winter at some seedy theater on Broadway and Diversey..thinking there will be a few brave souls in a freezing dank box. Surprise! Place was packed with happy, dancing freaks smoking warmly.
Olo,fascinating to read that. i was driving from sf to ny that opening week, and we saw that the movie had opened. we happened to be in chicago. so we grab a paper and check the listings, find the granada. i think i played at like 1, 4, 7 and 10, and we were there at 1, and NO ONE ELSE. which was kind of cool, until we realized we couldn't smoke. a very earnest usher made sure of that. then we failed miserably in an attempt to hide and catch the next show. on top of it all, i went to all five nights and was just so very sure i would have been visible in at least one little moment. just a snippet. just goes to show, you don't ever know. however, i'm positive they didn't leave me on the cutting room floor in the additional footage in this package. ha. the burner was that this derelict we knew who wandered around the lobby all the time is in it. i think the big question is, what's become of the footage they shot at the closing of the fillmore west. the casey jones and the JBG in "fillmore" are killer, but i bet there is more. that stuff would be the real find.

Let Tomorrow Be
LOL! I got into a bit of a "debate" with their manager about refusing to let us stay for a repeat. I lost. Still irks me.
